Fisherman theme

Here's the closeup of the Fisherman quilt that Pamela requested:

I'm probably going to reveal that I know more about quilting than I'd like to admit, but I believe it was created with the applique method. And no, I didn't look up the spelling of 'applique'. It's correct.

I think.

I did some digging and found the watercolor my gramma did, as well as the photo taken of me in Kings Canyon National Park (at the very end of road 180), and a small Thomas Kinkade print we bought at a gallery in Cambria, CA. I think I need to bug my gramma about getting a scanned copy of the photo she used to make the painting of my grampa, don't you?

I tried to get some good photo's of the individual pieces, but my camera wouldn't get close enough and focus on its own. Too late for me to mess with it right now. I plan on purchasing a good photo scanner soon.

As far as decorating is concerned, my top priority is getting the pictures of the my girlies up (I still need to get good frames), but if anyone has any suggestions on how to display these pieces, I'd love to hear them!

  1. My brother would love that quilt. He loves to fish, he's won some trophies and stuff for bass fishing. Not sure if he's tried fly fishing yet.

  2. What a great collection! But, yeah, I love family photos the most. I have so many pinned up around my desk at work.

  3. What if you were to make a nice, but simple frame that would not detract from the items and put the two photos beside the water color in one common mat? They would not have to be placed near the quilt for it all to tie in... maybe on a wall that joins the quilt wall.

All these things and your beauties will make a wonderful display... attractive and masculine.

  4. I like having some family things around. Although I have very few photos of people up.

  5. Thank you so much for posting. It's really nice... I like it a lot. I think I've used that brown fabric before! Did she do any other quilts like that? I like such quilts so much more than traditional patterns. It's a great idea to group the photos/prints with it. I made a book for my godmother when I made hers (lion quilt - you could find it by keyword quilts on my blog) and it was really nice to show the history.
