Blogfrog review

I've discovered blogfrog. (Through BlokThoughts, in case you were wondering...)

I like the concept. It gathers bloggers into communities where most of them focus on a particular topic. It could help me with my blog hunting. 'Blog hunting' is just browsing through follower lists looking for something worth reading. The success ratio is horrible. 6 out of 10 don't even link to their blog (assuming they have one.) Most of those that do link are about things I'm just not interested in, like fashion, mommyhood, crafts, or porn. The crummy thing about that is my interest is piqued only by either the profile picture, description, and/or blog title. Probably not something the average writer focuses on developing to encourage visiting.

It looks interesting. Interesting but intimidating. The estrogen practically oozes out of my monitor when I visit that site. The intro video doesn't really suggest that the site might be for guys either.

There's a live coffee chat thing going on now too. Sponsored by International Delight and hosted by Girlfriendology. Yeah, as much as I like coffee, I will not be joining that chat.

I'm half tempted to post one thing, "are guys allowed in here?" Just to see what would happen.

They'd probably assume I'm homosexual.

Wait! I was just browsing and found another guy!

Oh my goodness. He has another guy on his followers list!

And another! Woohoo!

Ummm...darnit. Not really interested in the content of their blogs. *sigh* One was ok, but it seems he only posts quotes. Huh.

Some cute girls following him though. *clickity*

One cool thing is the homepage, which has 3 panels, scaling left to right, from community, through hot discussions, all the way down to new posts. The last one just continually updates with the latest replies. Never seen that before but it looks useful.

Like I was saying...there is one guy featured in the Hot Community panel. One. And he's probably part of the site development team.

Yeah, I think I may have to slowly back out of that room...

  2. Sounds like an interesting way to connect to people with common interests. I'm just not sure who else would be interested in a blog like mine...Hi there, I'm Laura and I talk about myself! Um.

  3. OK - girlfriendology would scare many people off! That name!

    Laura - I have a blog a lot like yours ;-)

  4. Shelle - I suspected that. The 'front end developer' is a guy and that sounds like 'owner' to me.

laura - I'm interested! But I haven't seen to many communities around blogs like ours.

    crazy4coens - But isn't that a legitimate scientific term? Ummmm...no.

  5. Hey 3Girl, I'm a married dad of 4 daughters and I'm on Blog Frog :)

I was on for a while before I even noticed I was virtually the only guy on there!

Oh well. I guess I'll just peck away there for a while, and see if I ruffle any feathers LOL

  8. This made me laugh! I do get most of my traffic from blogfrog, but there is a shortage of men for sure. Nice to meet you!

  10. Hi 3GirlKnight - thanks for covering BlogFrog on your blog. Your comments about the new site design are really valuable. Yes, we do tend to attract more women than men but there are some great dad bloggers hiding in there too so don't give up! If you have suggestions for how we can be better, please let us know! So nice to discover your blog!
